State castle of Nachod
History:
The gothic keep and most probably also the town of Náchod was
found by knight Hron of Načeratice family in the half of 13th
century. The keep was built on an old trade path naerby border
crossing from Bohemia to Klodzko and protected the path. The
medieval fortress has been rebuilt by wealthy czech noble family
Smiřičtí of Smiřice to a renaissance castle on the break of 16th
and 17th century. The last male member of this family, Albrecht
Jan participated on Czech estate rebellion, the defenestration
of governors in Prague in 1618 and was also one of thirty
directors. Last owner coming from czech nobility was Adam
Erdman Trčka of Lípa, who’s brother-in-law was commander of
Kaisers armies Albrecht of Wallenstein. Adam fought by his
relative till his death on 25th Fentuary 1634, when they both
were murdered. In the same year, the castle and its estate
became an ownership of an italian noble man Ottavio Piccolomini
de Arragona, as a reward from kaiser Ferdinand II. for the help
by executing Albrecht of Wallenstein. Family of Piccolomini
owned the estate till 1783. During its reign, distinguished by
baroque and rococo adptations of interiors, got the castle its
present apearance. In 1792 bought the estate Petr Biron, duke
of Courland and Zagan and after his passing in 1800 inherited the
castle his oldest daughter, Katherine Wilhelmina, the princess
of Zagan. In 1842 bougt the estate german prince Georg
Wilhelm Schaumburg-Lippe for 2 500 000 golden. This princely
family ruled here till the end of World War II. On 21 June
1945 the whole property was confiscated and went under the
